About Genoa

Genoa are the oldest surviving football club in Italy, having been founded in 1897 as the Genoa Cricket and Football CLub. Although they have won the Scudetto an impressive nine times, the last of these was way back in 1924. In recent years the team have spent time in Serie B and in 2005-06 they were playing in Serie C. Since this low point their rise back to Serie A and European football has been masterminded by coach Gasperini and they will be looking for another top half finish this season.

Their return to Serie A has also provided the league with another local derby as they share the city and stadium with rivals Sampdoria.
